All the pretty horses.

After getting this seasons Elle Collections, I fell in love with the catwalk show for the Spring/Summer 2012 collection from Louis Vuitton. I love the cute pastel dresses and obviously the carousel was my favourite feature.  The entire show created such an atmosphere with the cranking of the carousel at the beginning and the soft music throughout. I could sit and watch this show over and over again.

I got these images from Google.

Here's the full show for Youtube. It is definitely worth the watch.

NFW Work Placement.

Tomorrow is the deadline to send my application for a work placement with Newcastle Fashion Week. I needed to send my CV and a 100 word statement about myself and why I should be chosen for the placement.
This is what I sent:
I’m currently studying towards a Foundation Degree in Fashion Design at Newcastle College. I work for Sainsbury’s at the moment but feel as though I would benefit from working in a place more suited to my interests and future development. I believe I could lend my hand to any field of work, as I am an enthusiastic, hard working individual. I want to use and improve the skills that I have already acquired, but also I would like to learn new skills that I am able to take further. I enjoy all aspects of fashion but would really enjoy developing my knowledge from working behind the scenes to see how everything is brought together.
Now I just have to wait for a reply to see if I've been accepted.

"The Gay Delavals"

Today was the first meeting for my work placement. We arrived at Seaton Delaval Hall at 11 and met in the Saloon room. We were given an introduction to the project, which explained what we would be doing and what it would be for. We've been asked to make Georgian inspired costumes which visitors to the Hall can wear and dress-up in. This would be for 'Whit week' in June. We were then split into two groups and were given a tour of the Hall. I found this very interesting as we were able to gather information and inspiration of the lifestyle of the family. Here are some of my images that I took for my inspiration.

Fabric Sourcing in Durham.

Yesterday I visited Durham with my friend Jade to collect fabrics for our Final Major project. There wasn't a great deal to choose from but we did have a look around the indoor market and picked up a couple of samples of fabric.
However, I did enjoy looking around the vintage and charity shops. This was where I saw this stack of suitcases, which I edited using Instagram.

Project Proposal

Now that I have my theme, I need to decide where I see my garments in the fashion market. I thought about who would usually wear these fun prints and where they would shop.
I came to the conclusion; it was predominately a younger generation from 16 years old to students up to 23 years old. I thought about the shops they usually shop at. These would be:
  • ·     Miss Selfridges
  • ·     River Island
  • ·     TopShop
  • ·     New Look
  • ·     H&M
  • ·     Primark

As I am also part of this age group, I thought about where I like to shop and where I could see my designs fitting.
So, I will design and make three garments as part of a capsule collection for TopShop. These would reflect the theme of Spring/Summer Florals.

LBD Collection.

These are the final little black dresses. We were asked to put them onto the mannequins as Kate from Have To Love was coming in to speak to us about them and to give us guidance on how we should style them for our negotiated project. She really helped me as I wasn't sure on how I should style my dress. She said it would look good to keep everything else such as hair and location simple so the main focus was the dress.

Final Major

Yesterday, we have been given the module guide for our Final Major Project. We have been given the freedom to use our own theme again. Despite being excited to start this, I had been struggling to think of a theme I’d want to use. On my way home from college, I took a detour into Newcastle City centre for a bit of retail therapy as well as to see if any of the current trends would inspire me. While in TopShop, I noticed there was a small section, which was bringing in the new season’s stock for the spring and summer. There were a lot of cute summer silhouettes in the dresses and skirts. As this was the S/S stock, it made me think of things that represented these seasons, such as flowers. So, this will be my theme, Floral. I haven’t decided whether I’m going to think ahead for summer and use brighter colour tones or use pastel colours to represent springtime.
I thought this would be a good theme to use, as floral prints are a popular trend for the spring and summer.

Have to Love.

Kate from Have to Love came into college today to take a look at our dresses and give us some advice for our photoshoots. I was planning on having a patterned background for my shoot but she suggested that I used a plain colour since my dress was quite detailed and she felt the patterned background would take the focus away. These are two pictures I took of our dresses which we lined up for her to see.
